1. Graphics
Your totally missed the point, characters are hardly a stick and the graphics are constantly being upgraded. As for attacks sure all the damage splats look the same, but that's not the attack. There is a huge difference of attack animation between say crystal bow being fired and a yew crossbow, between a dagger being slashed and a great axe being swung above the head, between a fire wave spell and an ice barrage spell.
2. Multiplayer Connections
You have sumed up the free game pretty well, but this does represent the members worlds. In members there are zilch 'bad mods' and the number of players begging or asking for gf ect is minimal compared to the good players who you can easily form a friendship with. Plus there are many mini-games which allow you to build strong team work skills between many people. The medium of the game also means race, age and gender barriers become neutral. Allowing ppl from 17 to 55 talk without seeming 'weird'
3. Play
Where did you get this from?
To fight an animal you click it once, there is no constant clicking.
Also sure for some combat is boring and sure cows are rubbish. They ARE meant to be rubbish due to low level. This is hardly comparable to the 23 different skills you can choice to train, giving you access to metallic dragons with deadly fire breath, ability to make some of best items in game, ability to earn riches.
You cannot judge a game merely by its combat, even that you got incorrect.
As for quests, sure the easy free quests are a bit useless, but the epic story lines and game played involved in many members quests cannot be ignored, and many with great rewards such as the sought after ancient magic.
4. Membership
Sure its $5 a month membership, JaGex are a company that need to make money to pay wages and improve the development team and servers. All games you mention have like 5 or 6 game servers and maybe 5 people making them. Runescape has over 150 game servers, each holding up to 2000 players. Plus a staff based of well over 100 on game development alone.
Also the free game does not get updates as it is a DEMO of the full game. Expecting updates on it is like expecting to be able to fight the basilisk in a demo of a harry potter and the chamber of secrets pc game.
5. Items
Boring old items. If you die, you lose all but two. Sometimes 3, if you're lucky. Repetitive. "PUT ON BOOTS TO GAIN 50 STRENGTH!" "YOU HAVE GLOVES ON! +20 ENDURANCE!" How does clothing effect your stats? Is it magic? Magical Boots of Wonder and Hope! "OMGOMGOMG!"
Good Effects:
Fun.
Work Ethics
Educational.
Friendship.
Relaxation.
You seem convinced a 30 second peak into a free world of Runescape gives you enough to judge the whole game on, as they say don't judge a book by its cover. There IS a whole lot more there if you get off your cynical behind and bother wiht the effort.
As for your love of AQ, talk about a clickfest? I got a finger strain from the repetitive clicking needed to play that game.
